OVERVIEW

In summary, the project that is being proposed is to design a UAV that is more efficient so that it may carryout tasks over a greater distance without a human pilot.

 

PROBLEM TO SOLVE

Border Patrol has endless miles of border to secure (over 1900 miles [1]). Some drones are used in the surveillance of the areas, but, due to current drone technology, limited flight time is a real issue with using battery power quadcopters (30 minutes [2]). Also, with larger fixed wing UAVs, the ability for ground patrol to have active communication with the UAVs is limited at best, while downtime and costs per unit in terms of maintenance and manufacturing as also limiting factors [3][4].

               A drone with an incorporated airfoil could travel further distances, have longer flight times, and thus have the ability to carry cargo onboard.
